Christina Gilbert - Front House Manager
Crystal originally from Canada and Michigan, she moved to Nappanee in 2005 and continued her career in the service industry. She has over 20 years of experience working for both small town independent restaurants as well as national chains.
Having worked extensively in the front and back of the house, she has experience in virtually every position in a restaurant. Her passion for positive customer experiences comes through in everything she tackles.
When she’s not working, Crystal spends as much time as possible with her two children. Or when they’ve had enough of her, she enjoys spending time gardening and crocheting.
Christina has been in restaurant management
for nearly two decades, starting out working with some smaller
restaurants and then moving on to be a manager for some National chains
where she spent 16 years as a manager over multiple locations.
“I got started in this business because I love food. I love to cook and bake it and be creative with it.” Christina shares, “There are four women in my life that have been a big influence on me. My mother, who was both an amazing woman and an amazing cook, and my three older sisters that each have the gift and talent of being amazing cooks as well. I learned so much from all of them. During my career in restaurant management I have gone through the school of hard knocks and boy did I learn a lot! I plan on bringing all of that experience to RUHE and I am confident that you are going to enjoy what we are building in Nappanee.”
Christina brings a lot to RUHE152, including years of operational experience, dedication, passion for success, willingness to work hard, commitment and excitement for this new venture and a commitment to customer service. Christina and her husband Erik, live in Plymouth, Indiana.
Head Brewery/Head Distiller - David Michael
We are Excited to Introduce you to our Head Brewer at RUHE152 - David Michael. David is originally from Fremont, Indiana and has been brewing professionally for many years. He started brewing in Angola, Indiana, then moved to Denver, Colorado to brew beer and craft whiskey. He then moved back to Indiana to become the head brewer in Mishawaka, Indiana. David has produced award winning beers and has been recognized for his creativity and even featured in a brewing publication. David and his wife Lindsay live in Nappanee and have twin girls together, along with 4 other children. David Michael is a new age renaissance man holding a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology. He has worked with at-risk teens as well as in an acute care mental health facility. We are glad that he decided to "Major" in the art of brewing memorable beers and crafting smooth whisky for RUHE152.
Executive Chef - Sidney Gongwer
Formally trained Chef Sidney Gongwer gained
his first professional experience at age 19 in the kitchen of Los
Angeles’ famed Chateau Marmont. Since then he’s held positions in both
Los Angeles and Nashville restaurants, with diverse experiences ranging
from a cruise ship in Alaska, to private chef at a tech-start-up mansion
in the Hollywood hills. Although he’s classically trained in French
cuisine, he’s particularly passionate about fusing Asian, Latin, and
other cultural classics. In his free time, he can be found experimenting
with barbequed meats. This should not be surprising, considering he is
the great-grandson of Nelson Gongwer, founder of locally-famed Nelson’s
BBQ and Catering.
Starting here at Ruhe as the Sushi chef, he now serves as Chef, with a goal to continually expand the dining experience at Ruhe 152.
